Role of Women in a rural household, how Sewagram Farm to Fashion changing it by providing charkhas at their home
Role of women in Rural India:
India today has reached the zenith of success in many fields like science and technology, literature, movies, and much more. But, some issues are still prevalent in the country and more prominently in rural India.
Rural India is the actual soul of the country where a maximum of its population resides yet it is also the most neglected and ignored by the Government. The major victims of the issues that are present in rural India are women. Rural Indian Women are facing a lot of problems such as – Education, Gender Discrimination, Child Marriage, Lack of proper sanitation, Dowry, Domestic violence, and Lack of Earning Source and Skill learning Opportunities.
Rural women play a critical role in the rural economies of both developed and developing countries. In most parts of the developing world, they participate in crop production and livestock care, provide food, water, and fuel for their families, and engage in off-farm activities to diversify their family’s livelihoods.
Rural women play many social and economic roles inside as well as outside the home, but their contribution does not receive due recognition. Rural women play a key role in supporting their households and communities in achieving food and nutrition security, generating income, and improving rural livelihoods and overall well-being. But still, they are facing various forms of discrimination, including job-typing that pushes them into low-paying jobs.
Sewagram Farm To Fashion has been working for women’s Empowerment in a very worthy manner.
We (SewagramFarm to Fashion) believe that any higher work participation does not lead to better outcomes unless accompanied by higher education, and/or assets. For this purpose Sewagram Farm to Fashion organized a training camp at Wardha to empower large numbers of women with knowledge of skills so that they could be able to be a part of our(Sewagram Farm to Fashion’s) work from home – CHARAKHA PROJECT.
Under this project, Sewagram Farm to Fashion provided ” 50 + Solar Charkhas ” to their trainees in various small rural places nearby the Wardha district, and allowed/permitted them to work from their own home where they can work in peace and can earn money and respect as well.
Sewagram Farm to Fashion also provides ginned/ roved cotton as raw material and women spin yarn from this cotton through the magical solar charkha equipment. Then after this threads are brought to Sewagram Farm to Fashion‘s manufacturing plant to continue weaving and other processes.
Thus Women Empowerment efforts of Sewagram Farm to Fashion boosting up rural economy.
Today most of the women are earning more than Rs. 300 to 400 per day. Some of these trainees are earning up to 12,000 per month by working from their own homes.
